Positive bits, column-page order, LSB first — bytes go straight into VRAM.

Packing

Column-page: split into 8-row pages, then sweep columns inside each page. This is SSD1306 VRAM order.

Got a glyph array and no idea how it was packed?

Paste it in; every packing mode and bit order is decoded side by side — the one that reads as a character is your answer.

How it works: render the character with the chosen font, binarize by threshold, then pack pixels into bytes. When a side is not a multiple of eight the last byte is zero-padded, which matches the PCtoLCD2002 convention.

Drivers disagree on layout: SSD1306 VRAM writes need column-page order with LSB first, drawBitmap-style APIs need row-major with MSB first, and XBM files use row-major with LSB first. Getting it wrong gives mirroring, interleaved halves or a garbled screen — not slightly misaligned text. When in doubt, pick a preset.
