Lowercase words joined by hyphens is the convention both search engines and readers expect. Chinese has two options: pinyin (most compatible, but loses meaning and collides on homophones) or keeping the characters (supported by modern browsers and search engines, and far more readable).

Over the limit it truncates at a word boundary and never leaves a trailing separator.

The pinyin dictionary is a few hundred KB and loads only when needed, never in the initial bundle. Turn off transliteration to see the Chinese-preserving output.
